Team Activities

Paint a school
Many of the inner-city schools Kids Co work with cannot afford to spend money on the upkeep of their classrooms, libraries and communal areas. By improving the environment, volunteers enhance the children’s experience of school life thus having an impact on their learning and happiness at school.
These days are perfect for a team building activity. You can prime outside or inside walls, apply basecoats, paint detailed murals (under close supervision!) or work on school gardens – replant, re-paint benches or create an eco area.

Colour a child’s life
Many inner-city children live in chronic deprivation due to their parents/carers being unable to sustain an appropriate standard of living. Kids Co has set up a housing intervention programme that creates a happier and healthier environment for their children.
Volunteers help redecorate a family’s home. Activities involve painting and decorating, but any extra skills in putting up shelves or laying flooring are always welcome.

Fun Day
Have fun! Kids Co organise fun days in participating schools. Kids Co can bring in bouncy castles, face-painters and endless games. These days are an opportunity to spoil each child and give them lasting memories.
Fun days can be as varied, as creative and as exciting as your team can think up. We work in collaboration with H&K to ensure that every part of the day is a success. Volunteers can help lead or support games, but your main role will be to ensure that EVERY child is having fun!

Drama workshops
Taking part in drama activities provides children with a unique, therapeutic form of creative expression. From playing games to creating small, presentable snippets of theatre, the workshops give each child the opportunity to speak, behave and act freely within a supportive environment. Both volunteers and children develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills, problem-solving abilities and confidence.

Drama therapists lead workshops which centre upon the idea of ‘shared experience’: the feeling of being part of a group and interacting positively with others. Through games and activities volunteers work with the children to help them design, develop and perform short pieces of theatre. Above all, the day is about having fun. Results are frequently moving and surprising, and the kids love it. Budding young actors are born each time!

Art workshops
Get involved in an artist led workshop. This is a fantastic way to interact with the children Kids Co work with. The children learn new ways of expressing themselves creatively, as well as improving their communication skills. Creativity is frequently squeezed out of the school curriculum; this day of activities ensures children access the arts.
A Kids Company artist plans and prepares the day. The volunteers work in groups supporting the children - it involves enthusiasm and fun! For the children this is a fantastic opportunity to spend time with adults in a fun, creative environment. Importantly it provides a chance to make something beautiful and to end the day with a sense of achievement.

Cookery workshops
These workshops, led by professional chefs, are a great way of introducing the children to the art of cooking. They have proved to be very popular with the children as well as the volunteers.
Volunteers will work in small groups, assisting the children in creating culinary delights! Past groups have enjoyed a fantastic array of dishes which they all can enjoy together afterwards.

Music workshops
Music is a brilliant way for children to express themselves. Many of the schools we work in do not have the resources to provide music for children.
Volunteers will be working together with the children to encourage and support them in their musical journey. It is a brilliant opportunity for volunteers to positively interact with the children, and most of all great fun!
