Catherine Cross

Lead counsel, media training

I joined Hill+Knowlton Strategies four years ago as Director of Training to lead our media and presentation training courses and within the first month experienced the fantastic variety of work because one day I was helping quantitative analysts (who use mathematical and statistical research into stock markets to help fund managers) and the next day I was advising a celebrity hairdresser.

I began media and presentation training when I joined Shandwick International (now Weber Shandwick) as a media consultant in 1998 following a ten year career as a journalist with the BBC. Part of my work involved setting up their media training services and I instantly loved the satisfaction of seeing people make huge improvements within a short space of time, even those who were shy, nervous or initially hostile to any sort of media exposure.

I went on to set up and run my own training business for eight years before joining H+K Strategies and now travel globally working across the huge range of H+K Strategies' clients.

I have 13 years of media training experience and have been awarded Approved Trainer status by the CIPR (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) every year since 2003.
