I’ve always had a vivid imagination and the need to express it. I ditched my Action Man’s uniform and made him a superhero. I liked to look beyond the obvious.
Having a microphone forcibly taken from me (after my fourth song) to give the other kids a turn taught me I had a passion to inspire an audience but a poor understanding of group dynamics. This insight has been invaluable in developing as a facilitator and trainer.
Another valuable lesson from music was singing in choirs. This showed me the power of collaboration, being part of that living wall of sound where each individual adds something special to the mix. Tapping in to this collaborative spirit is central to my approach to helping people learn.
My willingness to play the clown has enabled many people to open up and discover their own creative ability. Connecting people to their creative talents is one of the best parts of my work.
A love of French and Italian has taught me how essential it is to find different ways of expressing yourself (even if the subjunctive still needs work!). In fact I have a love of language and writing generally. Who wants to sound just like everybody else?
