Andy Sutherden / Global Head of Sports + Partnership Marketing

My job is to ignite human passion by creating powerful connections between sport, fans and business. Fulfilling this purpose has been my professional obsession since the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Andy is the agency’s first Global Head of its award winning Sports + Partnership Marketing practice. In his 20+ years’ experience, Andy has been credited for being involved in a host of industry ‘firsts’:- managing the PR for the Premier League’s first title sponsor, Carling; helping Korea successfully bid for the first co-hosted FIFA World Cup in 2002; signing Gillette’s first ‘global face’, David Beckham; being a lead consultant on P&G’s first corporate brand campaign, ‘Thank You Mum’, at the 2012 Olympics; negotiating golf’s ANA Inspiration, the world’s first brand sponsorship to contain both company name and motto in its title; and in 2015, being an advisor on the first Rugby World Cup to be near sell-out.

Under Andy’s leadership, and in recognition of his team’s unparalleled success during a milestone year in UK sport (2012), H+K Strategies won Agency of the Year 2013 at the BT Sport Industry Awards.

Today, Andy is the global lead on HSBC’s sponsorship portfolio; continues to manage brand campaigns for Gillette, a role he has fulfilled since joining the agency in 2003; and provides senior counsel to other blue chip clients such as Visa, Duracell, ANA, and the Qatar Olympic Committee. He is a key opinion former in the sports industry and is regularly asked to contribute to news programming in broadcast media such as Sky News and BBC Radio, as well as in national and international print, online, trade magazines and journals.
