My first job in PR was working as an intern in the United Nations Information Office in London and it taught me that when you’re passionate about your work, you can achieve anything. That’s why I love working on campaigns in the public and third sector – what we do really makes a difference: it sounds cheesy but it’s true!
My first job was running the residential programme at an international Summer School. It showed me that ultimately people have the same hopes and fears no matter where we’re from. Teaching English as a second language taught me that there’s more to communication that the words you use. Keeping over 120 teenagers entertained for two months taught me how to multitask and showed me that, where there is chaos, I can bring calm and order!
While I was at university, I worked in retail and learned that listening to what your customer wants means that you can help them more and that they leave happy. It taught me the importance of listening if you want to get to the right solution. It also instilled in me a drive to give my clients the best possible service which is something that drives my team too.
I’ve worked in public and third sector communications for ten years now on issues such as the environment, development, health and education. I’ve learned that if you believe in what you’re doing – and put your heart and soul into it - you’re going to achieve the best results every time ... and enjoy it too!
